Lying to your kid

Hey mommies,

Do you lie to your kid(s)?? Well I do. I try to be as truthful as possible, but there are just times you gotta lie to your kid just to get them to do something or not to do something.

Most of the time it's trying to make my son eat, followed by, taking him to wash his poop, making him go to sleep, or to let go of running around with that pencil he found somewhere and a bunch of other things.

So some of the usual dialogs would go something like:

1. Old newspaper (doesn't work anymore)

For some reason when he was around 1-2 years, those "Old newspaper, paper lama, kakaubochik (??)" lorries would scare him. So, that would be the bait for me and it worked. "Luqman, cepat makan nasik ni, kalau tak old newspaper datang" And I'll start singing "old newspaper" together with the honking/siren. And if I was lucky, in this case, if Luqman was unlucky, the lorry would pass by at the right time. Haha. But, it doesn't work anymore. He began to understand, there's nothing to fear.

2. Police / lipas / tikus / cicak / zombie or hantu

These are the usual suspects used against Luqman. Do they work? Depends on the situation. Sekarang ni not so much. The best thing is he now uses those things against me. Here's an example where he uses hantu.

Haha. Other instances he'd go like "Nanti police tangkap Ummi!" etc etc.. I'm pretty sure most of you go through a similar experience. I actually am not so keen on this scare/lie method, because I'd rather use positive reinforcement like "Ha, nanti Ummi beli toy / bagi gula-gula / bawak gi jalan-jalan" stuff like that, but that isn't as effective.

Also, the hantu thing pon to me isn't so good to make him believe in that. Yeah they do exist, alam ghaib and all, tapi there are other better things to use instead of hantu. So I avoid using that to scare him. However, when there are hantus on TV, I don't close his eye or distract him, I tell him to look at them, and I go, "Luqman, look hantu OooOoOOo" jokingly, so I don't want him to fear such things. So I guess why that's in this Keek above, he dares to say hantu is baik. Haha.

The creepy crawlies too like lipas. I don't want to make him afraid of 'em, nanti besar asyik takut lipas je. Dahla he's a boy. Good thing I don't fear those insects, so whenever I see one, I don't mind going close and telling Luqman, "See Luqman, nak takut apa, tak jadi apa pun kat Ummi?". However, in deperate cases I do use lipas/tikus/cicak when he's really stubborn and doesn't want to sleep. I'd act all panicky, like "Luqman, Luqman, bunyi apa tu.... Ummi nampak apa tu?!" and I'd go silent for a while (dramatic pause), then I continue "Eh, Ummi nampak lipas la kat situ, dia datang nak tengok Luqman sebab dia dengar Luqman bising-bising taknak sleep, Ummi takut, Ummi nak sleep". And I close my eyes, and pretend to sleep. For now, it works.

Please do share your tactics. Do you lie to your kids? Or do you have other ways to convince them to do/not do things? Please do share. I might be able to try it with Luqman.

Much Love, Anna

My baby shower featured in Utusan Malaysia

The article from Utusan Malaysia:

Baby shower ganti lenggang perut

INTAN Suhana juhari bersama anaknya, muhammad luqman wazif yang melakukan majlis baby shower.

BABY SHOWER.

Anna juga menempah sebiji kek tiramisu warna putih di mana bahagian atas dihiasi dengan patung kecil wanita mengandung dan bendera kertas yang dihasilkan beliau sendiri yang ditertulis perkataan can't wait to see you, a bun in over dan oh boy.

snappy #007

I know it's been too long since I've posted anything here. So let's start off with these two photos as a warming up session before I write as usual.

These were taken at Toys R' Us in Midvalley Megamall. He has the plaster over his cheeks because he scratched his face till it bled. He has eczema, and he's a thumb sucker, so the contact with his saliva from the thumb sucking makes it worse. It heals, and it comes up again. Sometimes on one side of the cheek, sometimes on both. Poor boy! He also has some on his legs as well.

The dermatologist we went to says that, it'll wear off as he grows older. We sure hope so. Don't like seeing those red blotches on his cheeks, and of course the itchiness that he has to endure. Kesian Luqman. Kaki dah tak hensem sebab berparut-parut dah.

We're currently trying different kinds of creams, lotions and bathing soaps that are specifically for Luqman's skin condition. If you have any suggestions, that really would be great. I get really sad, once I even cried when he starts scratching on his scabs that are healing and starts bleeding. It must be extremely itchy for him to not feel the pain from all that scratching. :(

Thank you dear mommies. I've missed you all! Okay one last photo, this one was taken with my phone. It's much easier to camwhore with the phone rather than that bulky DSLR. I think that some of the best moments are captured with just a camera phone huh?

I really like this photo. Look at Luqman's expression. Hehe. Sad face, yet Ummi is smiling away! He was feeling sleepy, fed him milk and he dozed right away with that red zebra plaster on his cheek.

Logos for mommies!

For some reason, tonight I'm having one of those creative spasms. Most probably because I'm stressed that I've some unfinished work that I've to FINISH. Will be heading off to my mother's kampung in Kelantan this Sunday. It will be Luqman's first time on a plane! I can't wait to see his reaction. Will he be crying? Will he be excited and happy? Heh.

I made up 3 logos you can use for your blog or wherever online. Credit would be appreciated! Do tell me if you use any of them!! Don't be selling them though! Ahaha.

You just right click and save and upload it to put it on the sidebar of your blog maybe. It's up to you. I made it 'transparent' so it can go with any color background. Tell me if you've any problems with it.

{ Baby Boy! }

{ Baby Girl! }
I know it's been forever since I updated anything here. I envy other mommies who update their blogs ever so often about their kids. How they write each detail of their baby's progress and milestones. First this, first that. I thought that I'd be one of those moms, writing down each and every detail. Apparently NOT. I guess I've been caught up with too much that I just didn't have the time to blog here. Sigh...

I'll probably jumble that up in one whole entry instead. A summary of what's been going on now that he's already 9 months! He's had his first solids, first fever (and a few after =\) and a number of this and that every baby goes through. He's a little slow on some, not crawling yet, has not cut his teeth. I'm saying 'slow' in comparison to other babies of friends. BUT I'm not worried, as I know that different babies progress differently. As long as he is healthy, eating well, is active in other ways, everything is perfectly fine. So Luqman sayang, take your time okay sweety?

So dear mommies. Hope you enjoy my logos. And if you want a customized / personalized logo e-mail me at sueannajoe@itudiostudio.com

Much Love, Anna
